Pretty Things Jack D’Or (6.4%)

WARNING: This review might include lots of CAPITAL letters, bold words and tears of joy.

Drinking Pretty Things beer is like drinking MAGIC.
This Saison Americaine is mind bogglingly beautiful.
How on earth do I begin to write about it.
I made notes but I can’t just throw a bunch of sentences at you.
Actually I might have to.
Pretty Things did this to me with the last beer of theirs that I drank – Perhaps there are some kind of Lewis Carroll drugs hidden in them – That would certainly fit in perfectly with the bottle’s artwork.
Make of this what you will, but I think I may be writing the first love letter I’ve written since I was a teenager.

Notes:

A beautiful bottle from the seal over the cap to the hand drawn character on the label.
Mandarin tartness, mouth-filling Malty fruits, gorgeous hop to finish & that very special flavour I can never put my finger on that only Belgian beers give (something to do with their yeast).

The lightness of touch and deftness of brewing is incredible.
Superlatives fail me.
You taste the barley but you FEEL the wheat.
It’s that creaminess that sits on your Tongue and comforts you.
It just keeps you happy while the peach blossom sweetness and tamarind bitterness walk hand in hand across your palate.
This is beer may just turn you into a HIPPY.
Even the fizz is perfect – Tight and precise and sparkly.
Golden beer.
Aniseed balls and rolling in the hay.
Green grassy wood.
Writing through tears of joy – This beer is almost life changing.

Those are the notes I wrote last night whilst drinking Jack D’Or.
Reading them back this morning I can remember exactly what I meant when I wrote them and so, whether this be a well written beer review or not, this is how it’s going to stay.
There are some exceptional brewers in the world making some remarkably good beers, but Pretty Things, whatever it is they are doing, are making some of the very best.
