BrewDog Christmas Porter (6.2%)

What do you want for Christmas?
I’d like a deliciously rich dark glass of beer please that leaves me satisfied and festive.
This isn’t it.
This is simply Alice Porter with some added spice, and it’s nowhere near as good as it ought to be.
Alice is a great beer.
Adding cocoa, cloves and a dash of chilli doesn’t add anything whatsoever.
You can barely taste the added ingredients, but they’re there just enough to distract from all the lovely porter flavours.
Not good.
Not good at all.
Leave poor Alice alone.

When my local announced their Christmas bottle line up I was excited to see that this was on it, I shouldn’t have been….

What a massive dissapointment, I don’t even think its as good as Alice Porter so god knows what they have done to it. Virtually no aroma from start to finish, taste grew with warmth but I can’t pick up anything festive in the two bottles I’ve had, I won’t be trying a third…

Thanks for the heads up on this. Was looking to track a bottle down. Now I won’t bother!

Have to say I preferred the Christmas Porter to Alice Porter. I found it maltier, less sharply hoppy and a bit thicker bodied. 🙂
