Duvel Tripel Hop 2012 Citra (9.5%)

Oh dear.
Duvel’s 2012 Special is dry hopped with Citra.
It’s a hop I’m quickly going off as I seem to be mentioning a lot lately how, if used badly, it’s all cat wee and acrid, rancid stuff.
I’m afraid that, in my opinion, that’s exactly what this is.
Not only does this beer smell like a cat’s litter tray, the flavour is overwhelmingly ammonia drenched.
The malts that should be deep and grounding are reduced to balsa wood, pencil shavings and blackboard chalk by the immense urinal laced hops that are breathtaking in their astringent bitterness.
You know me well enough by now to know I love my hops and I love my high ABV beers.
I also, usually, love Duvel.
But this is not nice.
Not nice at all.
