Brasserie De L’Abbaye Des Rocs Spéciale Noël (9%)

Spéciale NoëlSo it’s Boxing Day and I’m back at work tomorrow.
This is a rather fine way to end the Christmas break.
Spéciale Noël is a deep dark beer with a cappuccino head and a sweet star anise and cherry brandy smell.
There’s a very nice bitter chocolate sitting right at the base and above it sits a light but richly malted biscuit, a bowl full of stewed plums and a little splash of rum.
And there are sweeties too.
Lots of penny sweets, foam bananas, wine gums, some sherbet and some very nice vanilla.
The hops are dry and red brown, as crisp and crunchy as autumn leaves and heavy with a delicious woody resin that leaves a tongue coating finish that’s not unlike drinking a good desert wine.
Cheers.
