Butts Brewery Barbus Barbus (4.6%)

Barbus BarbusI really like the colour of this beer, all warm and golden.
I like its bubbly head that hangs on to the glass too.
But I don’t like the sulphurous eggy smell that’s tinged with sickly sweet toffee.
Drinking the beer there’s decent crunchy biscuit and a nice soft caramel along with a good hop bite that’s bitter with lemon juice and a splash of elderflower that leaves a decent crisp finish.
But man oh man, the smell is almost enough to make me pour this away.
It builds as you move down the glass and the beer warms, taking on a manure laden farmyard smell that begins to make this beer feel like you’re licking an old tractor tyre.
