Saltaire Brewery Kala (6.2%)

KalaKala is Saltaire’s Black IPA and it does exactly what you’d expect a Black IPA to do.
It pours a deep, dark purple brown with a light creamy head and the smell is chocolate, aniseed and a little red fruit.
There’s a big chunk of bitter chocolate in the malts, along with some toasted brown bread, toffee and coffee.
The hops are sharp and crisp, with lots of spiky, zesty citrus and a side order of woody resin that snaps at you and leaves you with a long dry, satisfying and almost smoky finish.
Not my favourite Saltaire beer by any means, but still rather good in its own right.
