The Tickety Brew Co. Pale Ale (5.5%)

Pale AleLet’s start from the beginning.
The name of this brewery grates with me.
I find it twee and prissy and it annoys me in the same way that the term “Twee Pop” annoyed me to the point of writing a song against it.
But I LOVE the labelling of the bottles.
I think the labelling is genius.
More importantly though, I really wanted to like this beer, but it’s a bit of a let down.
Pouring into my glass very flat, the smell is honey and peaches and dirty engine oil.
There’s an OK malt in here mind you.
It’s caramel thick and lightly coated in bran flakes and black pepper.
This is no bad thing.
The hops have a lemony, grapefruity thing going on, but the oiliness of the smell becomes a slight petroleum hum in the flavour.
And the flatness makes for a heavy damp, flabby feeling that makes Tickety Brew’s Pale Ale rather unpleasant in the finish.
Perhaps I simply got a bad bottle?
Nice labels though.
