Dog Bolter is a Porter, and it’s a good one too.
Pouring a deep dark purple brown, the smell is rum and raisin chocolate on well polished antique furniture.
There’s a lovely rich, yet soft and round plum compote fruitiness coupled with a warm melted bar of bitter chocolate stickiness, lots of wholemeal toast burned at the crust and a splash of Navy Rum.
You get a good damson skin almost-sourness too, all tongue drying and puckering that works well with the lemon rind and nettle tea of the hops, leaving a fresh zingy sharpness to the long dry finish that’s a mixture of crisp freshness and bitter sweet cocoa luxury.
