“I’m a bitter man.”
My oldest (and only) beer joke.
Turners – based in East Sussex – is a new brewery to me and this, my first beer from them, is a decent Best Bitter.
It’s a nice deep amber colour and its smell is lightly spiced orchard fruits and mixed nuts.
The slightly yeasty spiciness continues through the beer in a very pleasant way, adding an extra dimension to the red berries and toasted wholemeal bread of the malts, and a good piquancy to the sharp green spiky ivy leaves of the hops.
As you work your way down the glass this popping peppery feeling lurks throughout, adding a warmth to the honey, tobacco and camomile of the finish.
Very nice indeed.
