Smoked Oatmeal Stout?
Don’t mind if I do.
Dirty Stop Out is a pretty good beer, even if it doesn’t deliver exactly what I was hoping for.
It pours a deep dark mahogany brown and it smells like a pipe smoker eating prunes.
The malts are chocolatey and rich with coffee and a little smoked ham, and there’s a bitter, dry, crunchy red leafiness to the hops.
The only downside is that all of this good stuff disappears a little too quickly, which makes the beer feel a bit thin.
Maybe a heftier ABV would help everything last longer, because the things Dirty Stop Out does a rather nice but they have no staying power.
Almost great, but not quite.
