Liverpool Organic Brewery Imperial Russian Stout (8.1%)

Imperial Russian StoutThis is by far the best beer I’ve tried from Liverpool Organic.
Pouring an impenetrable black with a small cappuccino head, the smell is rum soused chocolate coffee beans.
This is a thick, unctuous beer, full of chocolate and coffee, raisins, plums and rum, and the addition of liquorice to the brew adds, well, liquorice.
Sticky, woody, sweet liquorice that brings an extra depth to the body of the beer over which the hops are all crunchy and autumnal.
Conkers and leaves and country walks.
Very good indeed.
