Mikkeller It’s Alive! (9%)

It's Alive!If this is the ode to Orval that I think it might be then Mikkeller have done a bloody good job.
If it’s not then it doesn’t half taste like it ought to be.
There are a lot of different versions of It’s Alive! and this one has been aged in white wine barrels, and it’s superb.
There’s a steely farm machinery aroma and a background fungal fug.
There’s heather honey and stable straw, lemon peel, sherbet and apple cores.
There’s damp wood and grape skins.
I love how this beer prickles my tongue and I love how it lingers, bitter, sour, dry and crisp.
Whether or not this is an ode to Orval, it’s a damned good beer.
