Tempest Brewing Co. Chipotle Porter (5.6%)

Chipotle PorterThis is weird.
What I’m about to say is both lightly pretentious and possibly not at all appetising.
And yet what I’m about to say describes a beer that I like very much indeed.
When you were at school did you used to bite your yellow painted HB pencils in class while listening to the teacher?
Remember how the varnish and paint would crack and a woody chewiness would come through, mixing with your saliva and making you chew more until the little rubber in its metal case would drop off the end?
You do?
Good.
Because that’s what this beer tastes of.
And as you get into it, you find that the pencil is wrapped in chocolate and spiked with a lovely red, fruity chilli heat.
There’s crunchy leaf litter hops too, but the overriding flavour for me is a sudden memory of secondary school and the need to buy a new pencil.
Lovely.
