Widmer Bros. Brewing Hefeweizen (4.9%)

HefeweizenI really like this, though it’s not much like a Hefeweizen.
The reason?
It has all those flavours you get from American “Craft” beer – You know, a sticky red resinous woodiness, a lovely rich toffee malt, and spiky, spicy floral hops that are tart with citrus fruit.
All of which is lovely.
But there are none of the banana and flowers that you might expect or even want from your Hefeweizen.
What Widmer Bros actually tastes of is a lovely big American Pale Ale.
And I’d never complain about a beer tasting like that.
