Hopshackle Brewery Historic Porter (4.8%)

Historic PorterWith an aroma of plums and prunes and bitter chocolate this deep purple brown beer smells delightful.
I’m a big fan of Hopshackle and – Nigel, owner and brewer, was one of my first CAMRGB interviewees – and this Historic Porter is super.
The malting is nearly burned wholemeal toast crusts, treacle and dark chocolate, black coffee and a rich red fruit compote.
There’s some very good and very English hopping too, all dandelion and burdock, tea leaves, hazel, bracken and liquorice, that leads you to a very more-ish finish that’s bitter and crisp, with a hint of Demerara sugar richness.
What a good little Porter this is.
