Kona Brewing Co. Fire Rock (6%)

Fire RockThis is interesting.
I generally think of Pale Ale, especially American Pale Ale, as being hop heavy.
But Fire Rock is a malt driven beer, and it’s rather good to boot.
Its aroma is caramel and peanut butter, and from the first swig you get a big chewy mouthful of of toffee, some fresh wholemeal bread and a spoon of apple jelly.
The hops provide a bitter woody resinous finish, packed with roasted hazelnuts, crunchy and autumnal, and everything is amped up by a warm hit of alcohol.
Very good, and not what I was expecting at all.
