Mikkeller Texas Ranger (6.6%)

Texas RangerTexas Ranger is a Chipotle Porter and it rocks.
Pouring a dense black with a thick creamy head, the smell is hot tangy red fruit.
This is a thick, mouth coating beer, a beer that has me thinking yet again about the difference between Porters and Stouts, because this little Porter is far thicker and creamier than most Stouts.
Not that that matters at all.
Not when the beer is as good as this.
Texas Ranger’s malts are full of bitter chocolate, burned toast, black coffee and plums, and all this is made smoky by the chilli.
The Chipotle roams around in the background, never overwhelming, but constantly there, giving lip smacking heat, a big paprika like smokiness and adding to the meaty body of the beer.
The hops are red and crunchy and tinged with lemon juice and the finish is hot and spicy and absolutely delicious.
