One of DBC’s limited editions, this is an oak matured Bock brewed with beech smoked malts, and it’s an absolute delight.
It pours a deep chocolate brown with a big round treacle and red fruit compote aroma, rich and sweet and inviting.
The smokiness is quite subtle, just floating around the edges and adding a warmth to the beer.
There’s a mouth filling toffee pudding body, lots of stewed fruit and some rum and raisin chocolate, and there’s a decent herbal sting from the hops, although they’re almost an afterthought as this beer is all about its big woody, resinous, plummy desert malting.
Very good indeed, the only thing that stops this being a spectacular beer is that my bottle was just a tad flat for my liking.
