The Five Points Brewing Co. Railway Porter (4.8%)

Railway PorterMy first taste of a Five Points beer and what a lovely thing it is.
With a smell that’s stuffed with chocolate and damsons and raspberry jam, the beer pours a deep dark brown and sits in my glass looking very inviting with its little creamy head.
The malts are big.
So big in fact that I wrote the word in my notebook with an exclamation mark.
They’re burned toast, chocolate, a mug full of good black coffee, treacle , honey and wood smoke.
The hops are crunchy and red, dry crisp leaf litter piled up on footpaths for kids to kick, they’re orange-brown chestnuts and brambles.
And with a finish that’s super dry, bitter coffee and cocoa powder, Railway Porter ought to come in a much bigger bottle.
