Brewed in Ventura County, California, County Line Rye is an absolutely brilliant bottle of beer.
It’s a biggy too – 6% ABV in a 605ml bottle.
Yum.
Pouring a deep amber, the smell is spiced satsumas and passion flowers.
Not solely a rye beer, there’s a good biscuit and honey base from the barley malts which is augmented by the rye that adds a rich round pumpernickel meatiness.
The hops are al orange blossom and tangerine, pine resin and lime leaves and sherbet, all glued together in a big blob of sticky marmalade.
The result is a beer with a dry woody bitter sweet finish.
I like this very much indeed.
