Oh my word, this is one hell of a big beer.
Road Warrior is an Imperial Rye IPA and that’s three of my very favourite beer related things right there.
Imperial, Rye, IPA.
Pouring a deep mahogany red, the smell is boozy red fruit in an old leather coated redwood chest.
The malting is a colossal slab of sticky treacle toffee, pumpernickel meatiness and bran rich biscuits, it’s chewy, mouth filling rye heaven.
The hops – Columbus, Mosaic and Amarillo – are fiery and sharp, bitter and dry.
Lots of green bushy leaves, lime zest, oranges and basil all glued together with the thickest pine resin you’ve ever encountered.
And then there’s the finish.
Super spicy, peppery heat over chest warming rum, it’s long and dry and immensely bitter, but edged with a very welcome molasses sweetness.
Road Warrior is absolutely wonderful.
