Do you like tamarind?
If not you’d best steer clear of Hitachino’s Amber Ale.
Personally, I love tamarind.
I used to pick and eat them when I lived in Jamaica as a boy.
It was sticky, rich and bitter sweet, and I’d chew it through squinting eyes as I caught green lizards by the tail, watching them detach as they scurried away.
But back to the beer.
The aroma here is molasses and hedgerow, and the malting is a big round chewy toffee and honey with chunks of crumbly biscuit and the all pervading tamarind thing dancing all over your tongue.
The hopping is green and pithy, mown lawns and hazel leaves, lemon rind and aniseed and it leads you right back to where we began.
Do you like tamarind?
I do.
Lovely.
