Norfolk Square Brewery Twisted Porter (10%)

Twisted PorterNorfolk Square have changed beyond recognition from the brewery I first encountered a few years ago while on holiday in their part of England.
Back then I found drinkable if wholly unexciting Golden Ales, but now with their Maverick range, Norfolk Square are brewing some rather special beer.
Twisted Porter is brewed with coffee, cocoa nibs and chilli, and it’s superb.
Pouring a dense purple brown, the smell is fruity red bell peppers and coffee.
Taking a swig you get treacle tart and fresh espresso, drinking chocolate and a subtle hit of chilli heat.
There are grassy, leafy nettle sting hops that add some much needed fresh greenery, but this is a beer all about its malts and its extra bits.
Twisted Porter is brandy hot, coffee rich, and fizzes on your tongue with a lovely chilli piquancy.
Superb.
