Meantime Brewing Co. Black Russian (7.5%)

Black RussianFor me, Meantime don’t always get it right, but when they do they can be absolutely briliant.
Take this for example.
Black Russian is a dark beer with lots of hops and is, in my opinion a Black IPA (as stated on UnTappd), though I have seen it called a Stout by others.
This is a black beer packed with burned toast, rum, chocolate and prunes.
It’s rich and round but not too thick, not overly sticky or weighty on your tongue.
And it’s absolutely top heavy with bitter, knife sharp lemon rind and lime zest hops.
Hops that twist your tongue, slap your cheeks and generally wring out the moisture from your face.
And all this bitter goodness is glued to you by a red wood resin that keeps the finish hanging on.
So yes, in my opinion this is a Black IPA, and what’s more it’s a bloody good one.
