Hart Family Brewery Opal (5.5%)

OpalThis doesn’t often happen to me, but I took a mouthful of Opal – Hart’s Cloudy Wheat Beer – and said “Wow” out loud.
And I realise I need to be careful as the Hart folks are friends, as are The Beerhouse chaps where I picked up the bottle (and glass), but my exclamation was an honest one and you’ll just have to take my word for it.
Opal is superb.
The aroma is full and rich with bread dough and spices, and the flavour is big and deep and delicious.
Lots of creamy fudge, toffee apple, celery salt, cloves, honey and pecans.
And over this there are tangerine skins and a sharp bitter green herbal sting that give Opal a super clean dry finish.
Wow is the word.
