Helm’s Brewing Co. Batten Down Brown (5.8%)

Batten Down BrownBatten Down Brown is a Brown Ale from San Diego and it’s a treacle tart and pecan beauty.
Pouring a very dark mahogany with a big frothy cappuccino head, the smell is lightly spiced pecan pie.
This is a malt heavy beer with the hops providing support.
They’re crunchy autumnal brown pithy leaves that keep the beer crisp and bitter in the finish, cleaning your palate between each mouthful while the malts do their thing.
And their thing is sticky toffee pudding, lots of roast nuts, honey, chocolate and a little coffee, round and rich and sweet without being sickly.
Batten Down Brown is very good indeed.
