This is my first Durham Brewery beer for a very long time and it immediately reminds me why I loved them so much.
Red Velvet is a Ruby Ale and it’s marvellous.
Sitting a deep red in my glass, the smell is peppery strawberries.
This is a malt heavy beer, its hops are light and subtle, providing just a gentle bitter nettle tea snap and a wash of citrus to clean your palate.
The malts are round and gooey with toffee and aniseed, honey and bran flakes, and there’s a whisky warmth that leads you into a sticky marmalade finish.
Oh, Durham Brewery, I’ve missed you.
