I’ve no idea why, but I wasn’t expecting much from this Porter.
And I do enjoy being proved wrong.
The aroma here is chocolate, golden syrup and stewed fruit, and the beer sits a deep dark purple brown in my glass.
There’s a treacle tart malt, rinsed in coffee, it’s heavy with damson jam and burned toast, and there’s a decent stinging nettle and orange zest hop.
The only thing wrong is that there’s a slightly odd, almost chemical tinge to the otherwise dry, rich and bitter finish that I taste in quite a lot of gluten free and Coeliac friendly beer.
But that’s a small gripe as this is a perfectly enjoyable little Porter.
