This little bottle of beer is beautifully presented, smells good – all wood chip and chocolate prunes – and sits a very appetising inky black in my glass.
There’s a good treacle tart and rum and raisin chocolate bar from the malts, and a crispy crunchy red leaf hedgerow, orange rind, lemon pith and grapefruit from the hops.
All very good, right?
Right.
But unfortunately all this goodness is let down by an oily thinness to the body that leaves the beer feeling rather insipid.
Not bad, but no cigar.
