Cheddar Ales Hardrock (4.4%)

HardrockI really like Cheddar Ales’ beer.
They have a solid core range and keep creating new seasonal and small batch brews that so far haven’t disappointed.
Hardrock is a Pale Ale that’s packed with hops, pours a good marmalade orange and smells of peaches, lilac and a hint of lavender.
There’s a good caramel biscuit malt with bran flakes and sticky honey at its edges, and the hops – a blend of Chinook, Brewers Gold and Mount Hood – provide a big resinous herbal kick.
You get pine needles and hazel leaves, a metallic basil tang, lime zest and lemon juice, a little aniseed and a dash of dandelion and burdock.
And to top it all, there’s a dry woody finish that’s crisp and refreshing.
Another winner from Cheddar.
