A decent Pale Ale this may be, earth shattering it’s not.
It’s certainly not quite as bursting with hop character as it claims to be.
That said, Hop Jock is perfectly drinkable, pouring a rich gold and smelling of fruity toffee sweets, all be they waving at you from a little way off.
There’s a decent round and chewy malt with caramel wafers, honey coated cereals and a little white pepper, but the hops, though providing some decent peach, lime and pithy resin, simply aren’t anywhere near as big or bold as the label would have you believe.
In fact they’re a little bit muted, a little too polite.
The finish is clean and crisp and for all my griping I’d happily drink this again.
I just wanted it to be better than it is.
