Hammerton Brewery Baron H (5.8%)

Baron H - 1Baron H is an Earl Grey Black IPA and I like it very much indeed.
It pours a deep dark black with a big fluffy cappuccino head and it smells absolutely lovely.
You get a nose full of fruit salad sweeties and a blast of smoky joss stick perfume, in fact it smells rather like my bedroom smelled as a teenager (if you forget the underlying smelly sock stench).
The malts are a hefty blend of treacle tart, fruit cake and burned wholemeal toast, and the hops are green and pithy, sharp and spiky, with lots of lemon rind and orange juice, bouquet garni and hazel, and the Earl Grey wafts around all of this goodness like a perfumed mist, jasmine and lilac, spices and wood smoke adding a super extra dimension to the feel and taste of the beer.
The finish is a rich chewy blend of honey and tobacco, and I for one wish this came in a much bigger bottle.
