A Pale Ale all the way from Melbourne, Australia, Fat Yak is pretty good if a little sweet.
The aroma is full of pine resin and peaches and the beer sits a warm amber in my glass.
The malts here are sweet toffee apples, wafer biscuits, demarara sugar, honey and shortcake, sticky and chewy and rather good.
Fat Yak’s hops are resinous and oily with lemon zest and orange marmalade, herbal leaves and a pithy woodiness.
All of this is great, but the whole thing becomes overly sweet in the finish, certainly a little too sweet for my liking, leaving the beer feeling a bit sickly by the end.
Good, but not great.
