Brewed in honour of Anchor’s first Brewmaster, Brekle’s Brown is a big malty beast.
It’s a deep conker red beer that smells of roasted almonds and boozy red fruit.
Taking a swig you find lots of aniseed and toffee, truffles, liquorice, linseed and brown bread maltiness.
The hops add a very English green hedgerow herbal twang, all hazel and nettles, dandelion and burdock.
My only problem with this beer is that the alcohol is a bit overwhelming, burning rather than warming as the beer heads towards its chewy honey and raisin finish.
