Once upon a time Black Isle were really super, interesting, lovely to drink.
Sadly, more recently they’ve started to taste rather samey.
Maybe it’s a different process for bottling, maybe it’s corner cutting in pursuit of profit margins.
It could be anything and I’d be guessing, but what I’m absolutely sure of is that this is a really uninteresting middle of the road Golden Ale, all shortcake and straw and caramel.
There’s a light honey background – and considering this is a beer made with honey, you’d expect a little more – but no real hop presence and a chemical tinged sickly finish.
