Rudeen is Bevog’s Black IPA and it is by far and away the best beer I’ve tried by them.
Pouring a rich purple brown with a big frothy cappuccino head, the smell is a rich and boozy Black Forest Gateux, all chocolate and cherries steeped in brandy.
There’s a lovely round treacle tart and shortcrust pastry malt, rounded out by plum jam and pumped full of bitter chocolate and espresso.
Over this there are a bunch of fresh herbal leaves, hazelnuts, tobacco, lemon zest and apple cores from the hops, and this leads you towards a long bitter coffee and sticky redwood resin finish.
