Hopstuff – Single Pacific Gem (4.2%)

20150912_212540-01Another one from the Hopstuff Brewery Single Hop series but only available in bottled form (I think).
The pacific gem hop itself comes from New Zealand but is somewhat different from the other hops I have tried previously from that country.
It’s a bittering hop so I didn’t expect any tropical fruit aroma or taste.
Nelson Sauvin or Motueka this is not!
Instead you get a bitter golden ale that has a woody taste and a very dry finish. I did not get any aroma from my bottle and the blackberry aroma that is associated with this hop was conspicuous by it’s absence.
Whilst it wasn’t an unpleasant beer Hopstuff have produced much better beers in this single hop series and I suggest searching out those instead.
In other news the brewery will soon be opening it’s new tap room.
I am sure I will manage to get to that!
