Pig & Porter Brewing Co. Red Spider (5.5%)

Red Spider - 1Oh my, this is a fabulous rye beer.
I mean, I’m a sucker for a rye beer, but this one really is good.
Pouring a deep ruby red, the smell is treacle and cherries, and as you take a mouthful you’re immediately met with a big round spicy meaty kick form the rye.
Sure there’s sticky toffee pudding and even a dusting of cocoa powder, but it;s the rye’s deep dark pumpernickel goodness that’s the star.
The hops – Centennial and Columbus – jump out at you with sharp lemon rind and lime leaves, jelly sweets and grapefruit zest, making for a long dry bitter finish that stops the malts getting too sticky.
Simply lovely.
