Westerham Brewery Co. Double Stout (5.5%)

Double Stout - 1Brewed to the old Black Eagle Brewery recipe as was the Audit Ale that I liked so much, this is a lovely round chocolatey Stout.
Pouring a deep mahogany, the smell is dark chocolate and coffee.
There’s a fruity damson edge to the malts, brightening up the dense cocoa, burned toast, honey and espresso that makes up the body of this hefty beer.
And there’s a good crunchy, crispy autumnal leaf litter and nettle tea hopping that leads you to a round chewy aniseed tinged treacle tart finish that’s has a good bitterness at its edges.
And I’m told that this beer is gluten free.
Well I never.
