Brewed for Marks & Spencer by Adnams, this is rather good, though I can’t find a whole lot of Saison characteristics in it.
That’s mainly because the Sorachi Ace is so stubbornly front and centre of the beer that it’s hard for the earthiness of the Saison yeast to find its way to you.
It is there, it’s just a subtle spicy background to the caramel and wafer malts and the big sharp lemon, yuzu and metallic basil tang of the Sorachi Ace.
But none of this is a complaint.
Not at all.
And for a high street beer it’s fantastic, certainly far closer to the mark than any of the other brewed-for-supermarket Saisons out there.
Good old Adnams, this is very nice indeed.
