Originally brewed in collaboration with Odell, Colorado Red is the best Thornbridge beer I’ve had in ages, though it still has that spun sugar sweetness that I don’t like lingering in the background.
Pouring a warm conker red, the aroma is resinous redwood and peppery garden flowers.
The malts are crunchy honey biscuits, sticky toffee and pie crusts and the hops – all English we are told – provide a nice green herbal tang, dandelion and burdock, nettles and a little lemon rind zip that leads you toward the gloopy toffee apple finish.
But what is that sweetness I keep finding in this brewery’s beer?
