This wonderfully potent IPA has been “Hopped non-stop” and you can tell.
It pours a deep Amber and has the most enormous smell of tropical fruit jelly sweets, but it’s when you take a swig that you discover just what Merciless is really all about.
There’s a round and chewy toffee and brown bread malt that has a good burned brown sugar sweetness which gives the beer a solid backbone, and it’s a good job too, because Merciless needs a solid backbone to hold up the intense hit you get from the hops.
They’re truly fearsome, smashing your skull in with piney resin and lemon pith, mandarins, peaches, sherbet and a keen nettle zing, and they build and build as you drink, sucking the moisture from your cheeks and leaving you gasping but happily reaching for more.
Super.
