Brewed in collaboration with their local beer shop, Beer Revolution, and a local coffee merchant, King Street Kitchen, The Dark Side is a Latte Stout.
A Milk Stout with coffee.
And rather good it is too.
Pouring an inky black with a little cappuccino head, the aroma is plums and gravy and coffee.
Taking a swig you find burned toast and rich black coffee, honey and lightly salted shortcake, and chasing the tail of this malty goodness is a sharp green nettle tea and chamomile hop, a hop that is edged with lemon rind and orchard fruit.
The only thing missing is the creaminess that lactose should bring, that soft round feeling you expect from a Milk Stout.
But it’s nothing to worry about when the coffee and herb finish is so tasty.
