Brewed in collaboration with Tiny Rebel, Catatonic (a play on Catatonia, the Welsh band maybe?) is yet another great Pale Ale from Salopian.
Pouring a pale amber with a foamy little head, the smell is orange juice and apricot jam.
There’s apricot jam in the flavour too, it sits all fruity and furry in the background, adding a sticky sweetness to the caramel and wafers of the malt, a hint of vanilla ice cream and the obligatory blob of honey.
The hopping, which includes that apricot jam thing, is sharp with sherbet lemons, lime zest, tangerines and a bright steely basil leafiness.
The result is a beer with a finish that is sharp and keen, zingy, bitter and dry.
