Salopian Brewery Midnight Express (5.2%)

Midnight Express - 1It’s a breath of fresh air to get a rich black Stout in Salopian’s Black Label range.
There’ve been lots of Pale Ales, all of them amazing, and one Black IPA, but they needed to do something different and this is it.
Midnight Express is a very dry Stout.
A Stout thick with molasses and burned wholemeal toast.
A Stout to shout about.
The aroma is damsons and blackberries in an old leather case in a wooden shed in the rain.
It is.
I promise.
And taking a big swig you find rich muddy espresso, treacle tart and wood fire ash from the malts, and a good crunchy woodland walk through crispy maple leaves from the hops.
You know what I mean, they’re pithy and bitter, brittle and snappy.
And everything is super dry, making you reach for your glass after every deliciously gloopy mouthful.
