Scumbag Maggot is an Imperial Stout that has been brewed with a load of juniper berries and aged in whisky barrels, and yes it is as good as it sounds.
Pouring an inky black, the aroma is wooden crates and chocolate and gin, and as you take a swig you find a rich and thick treacle tart and plum compote malt that’s heavy with coffee and dark bitter chocolate.
There’s a good leafy herbal hop presence too, along with a warm round whisky heat and damp wood thing from the barrel ageing, and across this you get a super clean metallic swipe from the juniper berries that makes the finish hard and bright and immensely drinkable.
Super stuff, and yes, I get the link with the name of the beer and a certain Christmas song, but it’s a song that I dislike intensely and so I’m not going to mention it.
