Whitefriars is a Wiper & True Winter Ale and Wiper & True are a brewery that I like very much.
But this is a little bit one dimensional.
The smell is a big boozy toffee apple and so are the malts.
Toffee, apple juice, a touch of honey, some burned sugar, that’s the main gist of the beer.
There’s a light hit of hedgerow and autumn leaf hops, a splash of lemon juice, but little else to distract you from the big fat toffee apple and alcohol of Whitefriars.
Not Wiper & True’s best.
Not by a long chalk.
