Bräuhaus Bevog Deetz (4.8%)

DeetzThis is a funny little Kölsch, quite nice to drink, but funny.
It’s been heavily hopped with lots of citrus tinged hops and the result is that this little bottle of pale gold beer with its frothy head smells and tastes like a good Pale Ale.
You get little of the flavours associated with Kölsch, none of the spicy herbal Saaz, none of the rich toffee biscuit malts.
Instead it’s all caramel and shortcake, honey, a pinch of salt and lots of lemon zest and grapefruit, lime leaves and hedgerow greenery from the bright shiny hopping.
The finish is lightly bitter, soft and creamy.
Funny peculiar, but good nonetheless.
