This Black IPA, or Cascadian Dark Ale as Northern Monk choose to call it, has been brewed in collaboration with Hide & Seek Records and it’s very good indeed.
Served in a 660ml bottle, the beer pours an inky black with a good cappuccino head and smells of prunes and bitter chocolate.
There’s a lot of chocolate in the body of the beer too, coating the toasted brown bread, honey and treacle tart of the malts, while the hops are pithy and dry, a brittle herbal sharpness slashing across the sticky malts with lemon zest and grapefruit, sherbet and passion fruit.
And while you’re drinking you can listen to the free Hide & Seek Records sampler that comes as a free download with the beer.
Cool.
