There’s something wrong with this beer but it took me a little while to put my finger on what it is.
Mudpuddler pours a rich black with a tiny head and has a decent enough plum, blackberry and chocolate smell.
The malts give a pleasant enough chocolate and burned toast roundness and the hops provide a reasonable sharp bitterness, some lemon zest and grapefruit, but there’s something wrong in the finish.
Something very wrong indeed, and once I realised what it was I couldn’t drink any more.
Remember that glue that came in a metal can and had to be applied with a special brush?
I’m pretty sure it was horse based, but it was used a lot in my design and woodworking lessons at school.
The aftertaste of this beer (this bottle of it, at least) tastes just like that glue smelled, and it put me right off.
